INFANTS (0 - 5 yrs old) and YOUNG ADULTS - Watch the Video Below!

1.       You must arrange for an interview by calling the Rectory at least one month before the desired date of Baptism. Call the rectory at 718-293-2766.

2.       Please bring a copy of the birth certificate to the interview.

3.       Only parents or legal guardians may register the child for Baptism.

4.       If you do not live within the parish boundaries, you must get a letter from your local Catholic parish granting permission to have your child baptized at Sacred Heart or Saint Francis.

5.       God-parents must be baptized Catholics, who attend mass regularly, and are in good standing with the Catholic Church.

7.       Parents and God-parents are required to attend a one hour class prior to the baptism, unless they have attended the infant baptismal preparation course in the past 18 months.

9.       For those who like suggestions, a lovely gift to the parish on the occasion of your child’s baptism is no less than $50. An envelope will be provided for you. Please turn this in directly to the deacon or priest at the time of baptism. Thank you in advance for your donation.

10.     Please notify the rectory if you must postpone or cancel the date you have scheduled for Baptism.
Requirements for Baptism
For parents:

1. Parents must have the desire and intention to teach and educate their children in the Catholic faith, not only by word, but also by example through the practice of the sacraments.

2. If the child has reached seven years old, he/she should be enrolled in the Religious Education Program and after the first year of classes, wll be baptized and so continue with the preparation for the other sacraments.

3. To register a child to be baptized: either one of the parents or the legal guardian must complete the registration process in the Rectory. (please call for an appointment).

4. Parents (at least one) must be registered in the parish or bring a letter of permission from the parish where they belong.

5. Parents must attend the Baptismal preparation class. (see the dates on back of the sheet). Certificates of online classes are not accepted.

6. Document needed for Baptisms at SH: Child’s Birth Certificate

For Godparents:

1. Godparents must be practicing Catholics: baptized, received First Communion, and over 18 yrs. old.
2. Only one man and one woman or only one of the aforementioned are allowed as godparents.
3. If they are not registered in this parish, they should bring a certificate or letter from the parish where they are registered and/or attend Mass.
4. Godparents, like parents, must attend the Baptismal preparation class. (see the dates on back of the sheet). Certificates of online classes are not accepted.

Both parents and godparents can take the Baptismal preparation course in another Catholic parish, but they need to submit the proof (letter of certificate) at least 1 week before the date of the baptism. If we do not receive a proof that the class was taken, the baptism will be postponed until that requirement is fulfilled
